Community members shared their thoughts about the draft 2020 Long Range Development Plan and EIR during public hearings UC Berkeley held in spring 2004. The hearings provided area residents with opportunities to comment on the documents, and have those comments transcribed as part of the administrative record. Written comments were added to that record as well.
The final 2020 LRDP & EIR published on January 3, 2005 addresses those comments and includes several changes made in response to concerns raised by members of the community.
Regents Meeting on 2020 LRDP and EIR
The UC Board of Regents' Committee on Grounds and Buildings approved the 2020 LRDP at its Jan. 18, 2005 meeting. The full board unanimously approved the plan and certified its environmental impact report two days later
UC Berkeley's first community meetings on the LRDP occurred in March 2003, when it invited the public to attend two information sessions. Community members saw the conceptual foundations for the plan and learned about the key issues the plan would address. The meetings occurred at the Krutch Theatre on the Clark Kerr Campus and the North Berkeley Senior Center.
In September 2003, the university held a public scoping meeting at the Krutch Theater, following publication of the formal Notice of Preparation on August 29. Interested individuals had the option to offer written or oral comments on the proposed scope of the environmental analysis.
In spring 2004, UC Berkeley released the draft LRDP & EIR. The public comment period opened April 15, 2004 and closed on June 18. During that period, UC Berkeley held two public hearings:
- Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the North Berkeley Senior Center
- Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at the Krutch Theatre.
